Thoroughly Modern Millie is a 1967 American musical film directed by George Roy Hill. The screenplay by Richard Morris focuses on a naive young woman who finds herself in the midst of a series of madcap adventures when she sets her sights on marrying her wealthy boss. The colt classic movie stared Julia Andrew, Mary Tyler Moore and many other now famous actors. But today I am not talking about the one million dollar movie, more along the lines of a school musical. But if you saw what I saw today you would think that it was a million dollar movie. Today I got a once in a lifetime chance to sit in on the rehearsal of the show and get a background look at what is going on. Three sections were split up into, dance and sing, acting and stage fighting. The director of the production Lee lee Newcomb is very famous for her theater camps. But enough of the foolish details lets dive right in.
I first got a chance to sit in on the sing and dance group, made mostly up of eighth graders. The song Give me, give me was the one. It had a familiar rhythm and tone but I couldn’t figure out what it was. Then it hit me, gimi gimi my favorite song five years in the past. I was so excited that I found out what the songs name was my skin was crawling.
My next stop was the fight scene that was made up of three seventh grade men and one eighth grade woman. The fighting taking place was oddly like the fighting that occurs at my household but without fake yelling and hitting. Seeing my fellow peers beat each other up was a exciting experience for me. One friend hitting the other as if I was to stop it, no doubt I was going to continue watching.
Unfortunately the third and final group had to leave to a seventh grade girls basketball game, but I am very happy to announce that the won! Their first win! Today was a good day, I got to feel as if I was an important reporter. But everyone thinks that already right….
