The Other Side of the Blog

Recently I was looking over my blog posts and realized that I am the only person giving only one opinion. Not saying that's bad but it just makes me feel awkward that I have an opinion and nobody else is able to pitch in. So keeping that in mind I decided I needed to interview some other students at my school. So I turned to my most reliable source that I can always count on. Eliza Samuelson.

I interviewed Ms. Samuelson knowing that she had a very similar view on school but doesn’t always look at the bad things. I just asked Eliza to explain what she thinks about school and I came up with a shocking result. Eliza: “ Academics are much harder than sixth grade and expectations are higher, but teachers help a lot when you need it. One of the worst part is the so called Drama. Not like last year the Drama is much more intense and severe than before. I feel that relationships are overrated in middle school as swell as dating. Being in a public school before BPS I much rather be in public because their is much less room the breath and word travels fast. Underneath a microscope.”

This interview intrigued me, so I went to do some more research. Asking teachers and students alike. I took a pull of all the major clicks in BPS and found out that 14 people found that BPS was a great environment for them and only 11 people thought that BPS was a very bad place. I got answers from, “I love this school” to “this school sucks.” Obviously very different opinions on things.

Now to keep in mind these are people that weren’t told by teachers to give a certain answer it was all on what the students really thought. So while Ms. Samuelson and I might have a very similar opinion on this school more than enough people disagree with us. But also keep in mind some people like small environments and others like bigger environments. So in the end the other side of what I write is very different and I just wanted to clear that up that I am not the only person thinking this stuff but that also many people disagree with me.

Middle School Mexican Stand off

In our time and age it does seem that the most challenging age group is the teenage group. Not to leave out the pre adult collage grads trying to get by life off of nothing. Or the wife and husband needing to support a family. Okay I retract my last statement, middle school students don’t have the most difficult life, but it does seem that way. You see it is very hard to comprehend, how can a age group being sheltered, not having to pay taxes and being fed be so miserable. I can’t even answer this question, go to a physiatrist. But yet the truth is still there, we are miserable. Facing the common issues of, “how does my hair look,” to “I hate my life.”  A bipolar type attitude towards life.

Recently I have witnessed the most terrible of all the terrible things that could happen during a middle school career. The separation of great friends. For the sake of privacy again I will not be mentioning names or specific events. Even if I’m not great friends with the people in the fight. Their is an unforgettable difference as they come over to you without that other person, or as they travel in groups not having their partner. As it may be hard to imagine it is a very sad thing that takes place. While I may not be able to do anything about it directly, I will try my very best.

To set aside a grudge or a obvious remark that someone has made agents you, might be harder than the stupid math test that you know you will fail. But whatever the coast, same with the math test, you must succeed or nothing good will come out of it. Even something such as a mean word needs to be foul play and ignored. Another thing such as reoccurring dishonest or mean actions need to stop. As hard as that may seem both friends need to do it.

In the end, I may not like I said succeed in accomplishing peace in the playground, but I will not stop at anything to make the thought that everyone loves each other a true reality. So to my friend put aside your mean words, your foolish actions and Irish type grudges and be friends again, its not a Mexican stand off, it a friendship.

1454 Days

Well, it is that time of year again, or should I say four years. No sporting event gets me more hyped up than the Olympic games. Whether it is the high speed sport of alpine skiing or the more relaxed sport of curling, for some reason just the thought of it makes me very excited. I can remember the 2006 Olympics vividly. I would wake up every morning and watch the Today Show to get all of the information on the past winter events. And nothing is to say that I will won’t be doing the exact same thing over the next month.

I can name many different reasons why the winter Olympics capture my attention much more than any other large sporting event. But the main reason behind this strange mystery is that it is winter. Winter is the best season for sports, weather, atmosphere ect. Also for some strange reason the feeling that school falls around the same time as apposed to the summer Olympics or World Cup. I just feel like it is a good feeling to rush home after school and watch the games.

Their is NO doubt that I will be following every waking moment of these upcoming games. I have all of my winter gear planted out, I am ready to go snowboarding and even to watch the games. I can feel that the next month will be full of fun filled competitive spirit up in the north. Have fun up their Vancouver and happy four years of waiting!

Extra, Extra!

So recently I have been looking all around the internet to see what is a good news blog/website to get some news from. I tried Huffington post, New Yorker and even the local newspaper, but nothing was good enough. So then it hit me, why don’t I just ask the people that I spend every day and every hour of that day with, the teachers. So I have conducted a very organized survey of my teachers favorite news sources. And as you shall see I got what I thought were some strange results.

I started with my mom and dad, dad said that his favorite was cnn.com, and my mother prefers the local NBC news station. For privacy reasons I can’t reveal my teachers names at this time. But what I can tell you is that 3 out of the ten teachers I interviewed preferred National Public Radio over any other news source. At least to me that is quite a strange outcome. In a survey taken one quarter of the people surveyed preferred a big organization such as cnn or NYT over any other blog or news source. While I got plenty of those outcomes in my survey I was surprised to see a non profit donation type source to win the crown.

Happy Birthday Olivia

Have you ever been graced by a all around nice person who cares for others. I have and I have the enormous privilege of being able to have such person as one of my very good friends. Olivia Thomas is a caring funny and kind person. In all my years I have never met someone with all of these great qualities. And in my years at BPS I have never met anyone with such grace and triumph in her past and future. She has never let me down as a friend or a person. She gives me tips while helping others. I love seeing her smiling face even when my jokes aren’t funny.

To criticize or be mean to Olivia is being mean to the face of kindness and inclusion. I also have never seen someone do as many nice things as Olivia has ever done. I would trust Olivia with my life, and I do. I am only a minor step step stone in the mosaic of her friends. But that is not to say I am not proud to be her friend. Nothing gives me more pleasure to walk in everyday and see Olivia’s shinning face greeting me in the classroom.

Today is Olivia’s birthday, she is thirteen. That is just one more year she has successfully captured the minds of every person she has ever met to love her. And today using the power of the internet I am giving Olivia a proper birthday writing. Nobody will ever stop loving you Olivia, thanks for everything and Happy 13!!!!!

Bloggers Union Part II

Well, here we are again, in the midst of a emotional crisis and economic collapse and I have the bright idea to add yet another item to my agenda. Juggling my on going directing career being a fundraiser administrator and school work can definitely put somewhat of a damper on someone's life. But hey, that's who I am, I like taking on all of these challenges with an open mind. But one idea that seemed to be untouched until now is the bloggers union idea. Now I don’t have to think up of an idea that may not work, because my idea that has been going on for a while is now an official school assignment.

Yes you heard me, I will be able to continue my blog while doing homework. But writing a note to a leader is another matter. You see because the chances of my teachers reading my blog is very high and because if I am saying things that I shouldn’t that will be trouble for me. So to help stop this problem I will be a school correspondent updating everybody about my project for the next few days or week. This doesn’t mean that I won’t be able to write stiff that I usually write, this just means that I will be writing more.

DQ: So now it is up to my loyal readers, if you could help me find someone to write to that might help me with my bloggers union idea please leave comments below, thanks!

Thoroughly Modern Millie

Thoroughly Modern Millie is a 1967 American musical film directed by George Roy Hill. The screenplay by Richard Morris focuses on a naive young woman who finds herself in the midst of a series of madcap adventures when she sets her sights on marrying her wealthy boss. The colt classic movie stared Julia Andrew, Mary Tyler Moore and many other now famous actors. But today I am not talking about the one million dollar movie, more along the lines of a school musical. But if you saw what I saw today you would think that it was a million dollar movie. Today I got a once in a lifetime chance to sit in on the rehearsal of the show and get a background look at what is going on. Three sections were split up into, dance and sing, acting and stage fighting. The director of the production Lee lee Newcomb is very famous for her theater camps. But enough of the foolish details lets dive right in.

I first got a chance to sit in on the sing and dance group, made mostly up of eighth graders. The song Give me, give me was the one. It had a familiar rhythm and tone but I couldn’t figure out what it was. Then it hit me, gimi gimi my favorite song five years in the past. I was so excited that I found out what the songs name was my skin was crawling.

My next stop was the fight scene that was made up of three seventh grade men and one eighth grade woman. The fighting taking place was oddly like the fighting that occurs at my household but without fake yelling and hitting. Seeing my fellow peers beat each other up was a exciting experience for me. One friend hitting the other as if I was to stop it, no doubt I was going to continue watching.

Unfortunately the third and final group had to leave to a seventh grade girls basketball game, but I am very happy to announce that the won! Their first win! Today was a good day, I got to feel as if I was an important reporter. But everyone thinks that already right….
