To be honest nobody gives a care about anyplace until a natural disaster or some national crisis hits this place. In Haiti’s case, nobody even knew that Haiti was already going through worse times than the U.S. I knew about Haiti, but that is just because I like to learn about other nations. If I didn’t have that quality I would know nothing about Haiti. Of course the reaction time of Haiti is far different from Katrina. I do believe that the support that the world community is giving Haiti is very good. But in other aspects Haiti and Katrina are very alike.
I knew less about New Orleans than I do about Haiti. For that matter I didn’t even know that New Orleans even was a common place for hurricanes to hit. Not only do people not care about places such as Haiti but even with American connections between these places is completely ignored. The only thing that draws attention to Haiti is the decrepit sight of rotting buildings falling over the streets. But what people don’t know is that the only thing that is different about the scenery of Haiti is the buildings might be fallen over. Otherwise the sight of homeless people, disorder and brutality is just the same. It might be at a more sever level but not much different.
But here I am complaining about the lack of direct attention to Haiti in the past but what really needs to be noticed is the Haiti desperately needs help. There are many ways that Haiti could be helped but I am going to use one of my favorite ways to help people and have fun at the same time. I will be holding a story contest for my blog. It is a five dollar entry fee. The topic is funny stories. You must write a minimum of a page, and no maximum just within reason. All of the money will go to support for Haiti. More detail will be coming out soon.
DQ: Do you know of any good orginazations that I might be able to donate the money from the fundraiser to? Leave answers and comments below.
